Moonee Valley Racecourse is the home of the Tatts Cox Plate. The Moonee Valley Racing Club also features night racing during the Spring Racing Carnival and throughout the summer months.
The Tatts Cox Plate is recognised as the Australasian weight-for-age championship. Seven of the past ten Cox Plate winners have gone on to win the title of Australia's Champion Racehorse.
Racing heroes from yesteryear including Phar Lap and Tulloch, have won the Cox Plate. And in the modern era, champions Makybe Diva, Kingston Town, Octagonal, Saintly, Might And Power, Sunline and Northerly have all etched their names on the Tatts Cox Plate honour role. And who could forget the battle between Bonecrusher and Our Waverley Star in 1986 and that stirring race call of Bill Collins as Bonecrusher "raced into equine immortality".
Adding to the appeal of this extraordinary race is the Valley's unique amphitheatre atmosphere. With its tight turning cambered track, and grandstands that tower over the home straight, Moonee Valley offers one of the most intimate race viewing experiences in the world.
With many up and coming thoroughbred stars emerging and a selection of top class group of international horses being aimed at the race this year, the 2010 Tatts Cox Plate promises to be the best so far.
