Ideally positioned just eight kilometres south-east of the city, Caulfield is the Melbourne Racing Club's showpiece racing venue.
The Caulfield Spring Racing Carnival comprises three days of outstanding Group 1 racing starting with The Age Caulfield Guineas Day, Schweppes Thousand Guineas Day and culminating in the BMW Caulfield Cup on Saturday 16 October, one of the world's most challenging 2400 metre handicap races.
Caulfield combines the charm of an historic past with all the comforts of modern facilities. Dominating the course is the magnificent Rupert Clarke Grandstand, which provides three levels of air-conditioned comfort for public patrons and spectacular viewing through its glass frontage.
Caulfield's racing surface underwent a renovation in 2005 and reopened in February of the following year. The revamped track features banked turns and an outer loop for 1700m, 1800m and 2000m races. The track is 30 metres wide all round and the main course proper measures 2080m in circumference. The straight has an effective length of 367 metres.
Easily accessible by car, bus, train or tram, Caulfield also offers ample free parking all year round.
