Trainers are advised that Racing Victoria, with the cooperation of Racing Analytical Services Ltd, offers trainers the opportunity to have non-raceday samples screened for certain therapeutic substances. This service is provided to assist trainers determine whether a horse is suitable to race after having been treated with certain legitimate therapeutic substances, particularly those that are long-acting or when the horses recent treatment history is unknown. Trainers are warned that the results of any non-raceday testing do not absolve them of their responsibilities in the event of a positive result arising from samples taken at any registered race meeting.
All samples must be received at Integrity Services, Racing Victoria Limited, 400 Epsom Road, Flemington 3031, Melbourne. Results will be reported to trainers as soon as possible.
The fee for testing of special non-raceday samples is $146.30 (inc. GST) per sample. Cheques should be made payable to Racing Victoria Limited and should accompany samples when they are submitted. Samples will not be accepted without payment of the appropriate fee. No samples will be accepted within 48 hours of the advertised starting time of the race for which the horse concerned is entered.
Trainers are warned that a negative result following a particular treatment may not mean that such a result would be obtained in similar circumstances in the same or other horses.
Trainers are also reminded of their obligations under Local Rule 68 in relation to proper precautions when taking over a horse that was previously trained by, pretrained by or in the charge of another person. Proper precautions includes the submission of samples for elective testing to detect whether any prohibited substance had been administered to the horse.
