Racing Victoria Limited (RVL) is pleased to accommodate visiting trainers to complement our racing programmes. Listed below is some helpful information during your visit to Victoria -

  • You can complete and submit the online form click here or download the form.

Paperwork - Upon the horse's arrival in Victoria you must complete a Visiting Trainer Application form which is located above or in the ‘Licensing Forms' section of the Racing Victoria Limited (RVL) Website. This form, titled ‘Movement of Horses – Local and Visiting Trainers' may be submitted on-line or downloaded and lodged with the RVL Licensing and Registrations department (Fax: +613 9258 4366). There is no charge for this application except payment of $121.00 for public liability insurance.  This is due and payable by overseas trainers only.
  • On this form you must document where you have received approval to train (which race club, e.g. Flemington). Evidence of race club approval is required.  Track fees should be paid to the race club racecourse at which you have obtained permission to train.
  • This permit will allow you to train as a visitor on Victorian racecourses for a period of 1 month between 1 December & 31 July or 2 months between 1 August & 30 November - these periods may be extended for a short period upon application.
  • Rules of Racing - Visiting Trainers should seek assistance from the Stipendiary Stewards regarding the Australian Rules of Racing and the Local Rules.  A copy may be downloaded from the 'Industry' section of the RVL Website.
  • Clearance - All Visiting Trainers must produce a clearance from their Principal Racing Authority with which they are licensed.

Stablehands - All stablehands (including members of the trainer's family who assist with the training of horses), must be registered on arrival by the trainer with RVL. There is no cost for this registration.
