This policy becomes effective from 1 March 2008 and will be subject to change as a result of continuous review and refinement. The policy is currently focused on track preparation, inspection and rating in the days leading up to and on race day at all Victorian racecourses that conduct TAB meetings.

The policy process will include:

  • Track test gallops on race morning
  • An additional track inspection and rating to be completed 90 minutes prior to the first race
  • More detailed track reports highlighting any variance in the track.
It is now required to rate the track based on the state of the majority of the track, not the worst section.
  • Enhanced track reports to be posted on TrackWatch. RISA will load TrackWatch data onto the RVL and RISA websites and send a text message summary to trainers with runners
  • Introduction of a template for track ratings
  • Clubs to complete and sign pre-race checklists
  • Introduction of penalties for non-compliance
There will be no change to RVL's Racecourse Maintenance Guidelines except to reflect any amended processes.
