Introduction
The Integrity Services Department of Racing Victoria Limited (‘Integrity Services’) has an important role in the management of Victorian thoroughbred racing. The functions include:
Collection of information
Integrity Services collects the personal information of licensed and registered persons, officials and other persons who may be involved in racing or betting. Personal information is collected for the purpose of performing the functions detailed above.
Information may be collected directly from persons, for example:
Information may also be collected from third parties in some circumstances (see below).
Use and disclosure of information
Personal Information that has been collected by Integrity Services is only used by us or disclosed to third parties in connection with our functions as detailed above.
When personal information is disclosed to third parties appropriate care is taken to ensure the information is protected from misuse.
Third parties and personal information
As noted above, personal information of individuals may be collected from or disclosed to third parties by Integrity Services in connection with the performance of our functions. For example, personal information may be collected from or disclosed to:
- witnesses, in the course of investigations or inquiries into possible breaches of the Rules;
- wagering service providers, to monitor compliance with Rules relating to betting or the integrity of races;
- government agencies, as required or authorized by law;
- contractors, who may assist in the conduct of investigations;
- other Principal Racing Authorities, to assist in interstate investigations in appropriate circumstances or when disciplinary action is taken against a person;
- the Registrar of Racehorses, when a horse is registered for racing.

For the Victorian Racing Industry
Racing Victoria Limited ("RVL") has adopted this Privacy Policy to ensure that it handles private information about individuals responsibly. This Privacy Policy may be amended from time to time.
It is important to RVL that individuals dealing with it are confident that RVL respects their personal information and does not interfere with their privacy when handling this information.
RVL abides by the National Privacy Principles ("NPPs") under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). More information about the way RVL manages members' personal information can be obtained by contacting RVL's Privacy Officer.
Personal information
RVL holds and uses personal information about its customers and persons licensed by it under the rules of racing and other relevant rules. Typically this information includes a person's name, address, date of birth, gender, occupation, income, tax file numbers and any other required information. This information is needed to maintain RVL's records in a format that identifies the person. These records are held by RVL for the purposes of enabling RVL to provide services to its customers and, in relation to persons licensed by it under the rules of racing and other relevant rules, to supervise the Victorian racing industry.
Collection of information
RVL usually collects this information from the person directly.
Use and disclosure
Personal information held by RVL will not be provided to any other organisation, nor used for any other purposes other than the purposes described above and related purposes except when the individual has consented to the use or disclosure, or the use and disclosure is required as authorised by law or relates to RVL's supervisory functions.
Access to personal information
A person can access his or her own personal information by contacting RVL's Privacy Officer. A fee may apply. If the information held by RVL is inaccurate, incomplete or not up to date a person may request RVL to correct the information.
There are some circumstances in which RVL is entitled to deny a person access to information. These include circumstances where such information is confidential or in a commercially sensitive decision making process, where the privacy of others may be breached if the information was accessed or where the law requires or authorises such access to be denied. RVL's Privacy Officer will advise if any of these circumstances apply.
Resolution of privacy concerns
If a person is concerned about a possible interference with privacy, the person should contact RVL's Privacy Officer. If the person's concerns are not resolved to the satisfaction of the person, the matter can be referred to the Privacy Commissioner on 1800 023 985.
