The Victorian Thoroughbred Racing industry is a major industry and employer.

The contribution the industry and its major events make to the Victorian and national economy is substantial. The 2008 Spring Racing Carnival alone contributed nearly $550 million in Gross Economic Benefit to the state's economy.
