The internationalisation of the Spring Racing Carnival is set to expand further in 2010 with the connections of Macau’s pin-up horse Luen Yat Forever formulating plans for a Melbourne campaign.

The Australian-bred four-year-old has captured the imagination of the Asian country over recent months becoming the first horse to win the Macau Triple Crown – Guineas, Derby and Gold Cup.

Trained by Steven Choi for prominent owner Tony Chan, Luen Yat Forever has amassed 10 wins and eight minor placings from 20 starts in Macau.

The $32,000 Magic Millions weanling purchase has amassed over $A800,000 in earnings with his wins ranging in distance from 1000 to 1800 metres.

Connections are yet to lock in a program for the spring, but are considering a range of handicap and weight-for-age options in the 1400 to 2000 metre range.

“We are always looking to broaden the appeal and coverage of the Spring Racing Carnival and the arrival of a horse from Macau would further enhance this,” RVL General Manager – Racing Operations, Leigh Jordon, said.

“We look forward to continuing our discussions with the connections of Luen Yat Forever whose presence in Melbourne would add another unique dimension to our Carnival.”
